Last updated September 8, 2026. Applies to the Layer Up app and trylayerup.com.

Plain English, because that's how we'd want it explained to us.

Who we are. Layer Up is an independent app, made by a very small team in the United States. For anything about your data, email hello@trylayerup.com — a human reads it.

What we collect

  • Your email — to sign you in (we send a one-time code) and to reach you about your account.
  • Photos of your clothes — the pieces you add to your closet, plus the cut-outs we make from them.
  • A face photo and a body photo — used to generate your try-on model. You choose whether to add these; Layer Up works without them.
  • Body measurements — if you enter them, to size your model.
  • Outfits, wear history and notes you create.
  • Purchases — Apple tells us what you bought (plan or credit pack) and when. We never see your card details.
  • Usage and crash data — which screens are used and if the app crashes, so we can fix it. No advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking.

How we use it

Only to run Layer Up: build your closet, generate your model and try-on looks, keep your outfits and history, and provide what you paid for. We don't sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your photos to train AI models.

The AI part

Your model and try-on looks are generated by AI. We send the photos needed for each generation to our AI providers (fal.ai for model and look generation; Anthropic for tagging and analysis). They process the request and return the result; under their API terms your photos are not used to train their models. Results are approximate.

Who else touches your data

Only the services that run the product: Apple (payments and app distribution), Supabase (database and photo storage), fal.ai and Anthropic (AI generation), Resend (sign-in emails), Sentry (crash reports), Vercel (hosting). Each is bound by its own privacy terms. No data brokers, no ad networks.

The website's color analysis

If you buy the $5 analysis on trylayerup.com, the selfies you upload and your results live in a temporary session store: 24 hours for a paid analysis and 7 days for a free draping room, then they are deleted automatically. Download your palette card within that window. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see your card number. Stripe (payments) and Upstash (temporary session storage) are the two extra services that touch web purchases.

How long we keep it

As long as your account exists. Delete a clothing item and its photo is removed. Delete your account (Profile → Delete account) and everything — closet, outfits, photos, model, measurements, email — is erased from our systems. Backups roll off within 30 days. Purchase records stay with Apple.

Your choices and rights

  • Add or skip the face and body photos at any time.
  • Delete any item, your model, or your whole account from inside the app.
  • Email hello@trylayerup.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it if you can't use the app.
  • If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have these rights by law; we honor them for everyone.

Children

Layer Up is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger; if you think we have, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

We'll post changes here with a new date. Material changes get an in-app notice.
